Bluehost and DreamHost are the two giant web hosting providers with almost common names. One starts with the word Blue and the other starts with the word Dream. And both ends with the word Host.
Because of the above reason, many users who are looking for a shared hosting solution tend to be confused between the two as both are equally well-known and as well as reliable.
But if you examine both of them in detail, there is one clear winner. In other words, one is better than the other on certain levels.
This article will be the deciding piece of which shared hosting provider is better.
Bluehost offers four different plans for you to choose from; Basic, Plus, Choice Plus and Pro. DreamHost on the other hand offers two different plans; Shared Starter and Shared Unlimited.
Bluehost’s price starts from $2.95 per month and rockets up to $13.95 per month. As DreamHost only offers two plans, their prices are $2.59 and $5.95 per month respectively.
Although DreamHost seems to be cheaper, if you look at their features closely, Bluehost offers a free domain name registration for all their plans including for their cheapest $2.95 per month plan. DreamHost on other other hand only offers a free domain name registration for their more expensive plan, the Shared Unlimited.
For your information, a free domain name registration is worth $15. So technically, Bluehost is a more affordable option if you look at the wider picture.
Bluehost does not offer monthly payment and DreamHost offers monthly payment.
But the downside of this monthly payment offered by DreamHost is that it is priced almost double the standard pricing.
Both Bluehost and DreamHost datacenters are located in the U.S.A. So you can pretty much expect the similar performance if you host your website with either one.
But then again, Bluehost has a dedicated shared hosting plan for websites that requires better performance. That shared hosting plan is called Pro.
Bluehost offers 24/7/365 support in the form of live chat, email and phone call. And they are very quick to respond to your queries. DreamHost on the other hand does not offer you around the clock support as their support team only operates from 5.30AM – 9.30PM pacific time.
Both Bluehost and DreamHost have a custom designed user interface which eases the process of creating a website and also eases the process of managing other aspects of a website such as email, domain name, SSL and so on.
Based on the comparisons above, Bluehost is clearly the better shared hosting provider based on both technical and fundamental perspective.
