If you are adding Google Maps to your WordPress website via a plugin, then you are going to need to do a little more work compared to the conventional way of adding Google Maps in WordPress.
But at the same time, adding Google Maps in WordPress using a plugin gives you more control on the map in terms of design, features and so on. In other words, the little more work that you need to do is worth it.
Here I will show you how to add Google Maps in WordPress using a plugin
First things first, you are going to need Supsystic’s Google Maps Easy plugin. It’s a free plugin with useful features to pimp up the standard way of displaying Google Maps.
To begin, install and activate the plugin to WordPress.
Once the plugin is activated, you will need to head over to the plugin’s settings area, Google Maps Easy > Settings.
This is where the additional work slides in.
In the settings area, you will notice that you will need to add the Google API key in the field that says User API key.
And this is needed to be done or otherwise the Google Maps will not work.
To retrieve your own Google API key, see this guide here.
Once you have retrieved your API key and add it to the respective field, save the changes.
Next, click on the Add Map button to begin customising your Google Map.
By performing the step above, you will be brought to the map adding area that is filled with control options. Literally, everything about the map can be controlled.
You can even add a marker on the map by heading over to the Markers tab.
Here’s an example:
Once you are done customizing the map and saved all the changes, copy the map’s shortcode.
And paste it anywhere you want it to appear.
The map should appear just the way you have set it to appear.
If you would like to further style it, see our tutorial here which makes use of the plugin called Snazzy Maps.
