The 2019 Guide To Register A Domain Name

Registering a domain name has been made easier and easier over the past decade. It has also been made faster! If you want a domain name right now, you can get it registered almost immediately and put it to use.

Here I will show you how to register a domain name

To begin, you will need to find a reliable domain name registrar.

What is a domain name registrar? A domain name registrar is a party that provides you with the platform to register a domain name.

There are many domain name registrars on the internet. Here is a list of prominent ones:

It’s really up to you which domain name registrars you choose. This is because they are priced very closely and they involve a similar process of registration.

For this tutorial, I will be using Namecheap.

The first thing I will do is head over to Namecheap’s main page and search for a domain name by using their search tool.

Next, I will click on the add to cart button.

Note: If the domain name you want is taken, consider a second option.

After I have added it to the cart, I will be offered a few other things which are normally purchased with a domain name such as web hosting, SSL certificate and so on. But since I only want a domain name, I’m going to proceed without the other stuff by clicking on the View Cart button.

On the following screen, I can adjust the domain name registration period. I’m going to set it at 1 Year. After the 1 year period, I will have to renew it in order to continue using the domain name.

Namecheap also has an Auto-renew feature which can be turned on or off anytime. Turning it on will automatically renew the domain name whenever it’s about to expire.

And there’s a free domain name privacy protection service provided by WhoisGuard.

Other than that it’s all add-on services which requires me to pay extra.

Lastly, I’m going to click on the Confirm Order button to proceed to the Namecheap account creation and payment process.

Once the above is completed, I have successfully registered a domain name.

But I have one more thing to do to complete the registration which is verifying the email address linked to the domain name.

To verify the email address, I will need to access my email address which I used to register the domain name.

An email should have been sent titled ‘IMMEDIATE VERIFICATION required for your domain(s)‘.

In the email, it will contain the link to verify the email address. All I need to do is click on it and the job is done.

I can now make use of the domain name.
