The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Kinsta

Kinsta is one of the popular choice of premium WordPress hosting. Aside from being popular, it’s also unique as it stands out from other premium WordPress hosting providers. This is because Kinsta’s server resources are borrowed from Google Cloud Platform (GCP). If you know GCP, then you should know that they have a state-of-the-art infrastructure. So technically speaking, if you host your WordPress website with Kinsta, your WordPress website will reside in GCP, where it’s safe and receive the best treatment.

In other words, Kinsta is sort of like the middleman.

Some of you will ponder on cutting out the middleman and going directly to the source, but, that’s not something easy to do. This is because GCP is a self-service platform. In order to host your WordPress website with GCP, you will need to deploy your own server, install WordPress manually and configure domain name manually.

Kinsta has sort of made it easy to host a WordPress website with GCP by eliminating the manual labour.

But, Kinsta is more than just that. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the advantages and disadvantages of Kinsta.

Advantages of Kinsta

Since a WordPress website hosted with Kinsta is considered similar to hosting with GCP, you get to enjoy all the perks that you would get if you host your WordPress website directly with GCP. For instance, you get to choose a data center location out of nineteen available data center locations. In WordPress hosting world, that’s a lot of data center locations.

If your WordPress website is based in another corner of the world, you can surely find the closest data center location to it with no issues.

Another perk is having your WordPress website to load at lightning speed. As mentioned earlier, GCP has a state-of-the-art infrastructure. Even Google, Twitter, PayPal, and Bloomberg uses it. So, you can expect your WordPress website to load as fast as those established brands with Kinsta. There’s even free CDN provided to further boost the performance.

Kinsta also has a state-of-the-art control panel for you to manage your WordPress website. The control panel allows you to easily set up a WordPress website, set up domain name, monitor the server usage, monitor website traffic, manage backups and even manage users that have access to the control panel.

Disadvantages of Kinsta

The main disadvantage is the price. While GCP only charges you by the amount of server resources you use, Kinsta has created nine different plans and put a fixed priced on each and every plan. You can choose to pay monthly or annually.

For most of you, this is a good thing as the pricing is more simplified, but, I’m not sure you will think such way when you find out that it’s more expensive. For example, their Starter plan is priced at $30 and offers 20,000 visits and 5GB disk space. For the same amount of visits and disk space, you will only need to pay about $5 per month if you DIY.

On top of that, they also charge an overage fee of $1 for every 1,000 visits. In other words, if you choose the Starter plan and your WordPress website exceeded 20,000 visits, you will need to pay $1 for every additional 1,000 visits.

Another disadvantage is that Kinsta bans you from installing some plugins on your WordPress website. The banned plugins include security plugins, performance plugins, backup plugins and caching plugins. Why? This is because Kinsta has already implemented those features that come with those banned plugins in their control panel and server environment. And you have no choice but to use what is provided.

The disadvantages of Kinsta only hovers around their pricing and plugin limitations. But, their advantages seems to make up for it.
